September 2015 Reading List

Welcome to September!

While September is not my favorite month by any means (frankly, it's just winter's launch pad), I am looking forward to this month's reading. I've packed my list with a bunch of new memoirs, Voracious (mixes books and food--my favorite topics), The Lost Landscape (Joyce Carol Oates' memoir, due out Sept. 8), The Pawnbroker's Daughter (poet Maxine Kumin's memoir), Gifted Hands (presidential hopeful Ben Carson's memoir), and A Good Enough Daughter (a memoir re-read). I also plan to read Michael Perry's newest book, which happens to be fiction, The Jesus Cow. I'll finish my audio of The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (sniff, sniff). I'll read the follow-up to Billy Collin's Poetry 180 (he's the editor) with 180 More. I'll indulge my inner-decorator with Elements of Style. And I'll read Anne Morrow Lindbergh's classic Gift from the Sea. If there's time, I'll tackle Tarzan of the Apes, which I promised my husband I'd read. I've already put aside one book this month. Juliette Gordon Low is a biography of the founder of the Girl Scouts, but it was a little too uninteresting to me.

What's on the docket for you this month?

  1. I've had Gifted Hands on my to-read list for years--long before there were any hints that Ben Carson might run for president--but I still haven't read it. Have you seen the movie (I think by the same title)? It's quite good.

    1. I didn't know there was a movie! I'll have to find that. I really like Ben Carson, and I'm glad he's doing so well in the campaign. I can't wait to read this book.
