June 2016 Reading List

Isn't it funny how something can sit on your TBR for ages, and then suddenly one day, it seems just right to read it? That's what this month's list is full of--lots of treats I've been saving for just the right time.

Nonfiction:

Clint Hill's third memoir about serving in the president's secret service, Five Presidents. Kate Andersen Brower's follow-up to The Residence, First Women. A book for my read books over 30 years old challenge, West with the Night. And Dyan Cannon's memoir of life with her husband, Cary Grant, Dear Cary.

Fiction:

Finally, the second Flavia de Luce mystery, The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag.

Poetry:

A poetry collection by one of my very favorite poets, Sharon Olds, Strike Sparks. I think I'll run into a lot of old friends and hope to make some new ones, too.

Children's:

The third book in Sara Pennypacker's Clementine series, Clementine's Letter. Also, the follow-up to Jacqueline Kelly's The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, The Curious World of Calpurnia Tate

Cooking & Decorating:

Finally, finally, I'll be getting to Bee Yinn Low's Easy Chinese Recipes. And a book I've been wanting to slip into for ages, Living with What You Love. I hope to get some inspiration from both of these.

Audio:

My audiobook will be the third in Jan Karon's Mitford series, These High, Green Hills. I enjoyed reading the first one, and I really enjoyed listening to the second one, so I went with listening for the third one as well.

  1. Carrie, (Laurie here) Hubby is loving the Clint Hill book. In a major shocker for him he did go to the end to find the part about when he was on 60 Minutes talking about Kennedy...but then, OMG, he went to the beginning and is reading it front to back. Not sure I have ever seen him do that with any book.

    1. I'm loving the book, too. For a 450-page book, it's flying by. I wish it was 800 pages. So glad hubby is liking it!
